“Behold I stand at the gate and knock” (Rev. 3. 20)
Jesus stands at the door of my heart, patiently, uncomplainingly. How long has He been there? A year? Ten years? I have been afraid to let Him in.
Jesus knocks: “Open to Me, My Beloved.” My heart has been closed fast in spite of His calls, His inspirations, the appeals of His grace. How long? I have heard Him knocking, I have pretended I did not, I have longed He would go away. My God, how I must have pained You; but do not go away, wait a little longer.
I look out timidly to see who is calling. Why should I be afraid to let Him in? He has come to me, I have not sought Him. What love He must have for me! Jesus, why am I afraid of You, afraid to let You come into my heart?

Today’s problem is that most people don’t make time for the Lord, we are too often too busy, or too distracted; what keeps us so busy/distracted that we have no time for Him? Work, sports, technology, especially the phone, etc.
We should remind ourselves of how many hours one spends working, on the computer, glancing at the phone…how many times a day, how many times within the hour, within a half hour?- and yet, how many times do our thoughts and heart turn to God? Or how often do we spend a moment or longer to give attention to others, a helping hand, a prayer, a smile, a kind word, or to attend to their needs, or simply show love and concern.
Father Doyle, please help us to open our eyes and hearts to God, that we may use the graces He sends to step away from ourselves and open our lives to God Himself, and to others.
Love the thoughts that Fr. Doyle expressed in that famous picture of Our Lord knocking at the door with no handle. Beautifully expressed and new. insight. Very Beautiful Father Doyle. Please pray for us.
