How often have we murmured against the good God because He has refused our petitions or frustrated our plans. Can we look into the future as God can do? Can we see now and realise to the full the effect our request would have had if granted? God loves us, He loves us too dearly to leave us to the guidance of our poor judgements; and when He turns a deaf ear to our entreaties it is as a tender Father would treat the longings of a child for what would work him harm.

on Thoughts for May 19 from Fr Willie Doyle.

Above is a good and healthy image of God. We learn to take, or should learn to take a “yes” or “no” from our mother and father, and as we get older it makes sense why each responded the way they did at times. As Father Doyle points out, God has to say “no” if ultimately, a no is actually a good thing for us; in other words, God’s plan is wiser than our plan. We must trust God as a child trusts those whom he loves. We are children no matter how old we are, and God is wiser than we are no matter how much education we have.
