Devotion to the Sacred Heart cannot exist without self-denial; the flames and thorns around that Heart, the cross that crowns It, point to a love of, and call for, suffering.

Uniting our sufferings with the Lord’s is a sure way of being able to accept and endure them. Suffering was part of the Holy Family’s mission; certainly love and a rich faith enable them to continue their, “Yes” to God. They know what we suffer, and want to help.
Father Doyle, you had a great share of suffering, shared with Jesus. Please teach us to follow your example, and help others along their way of suffering, with faith and trust.
