I assert fearlessly that if only we all prayed enough – and I mean by that a constant, steady unflagging stream of aspirations, petitions etc from the heart – there is no one, no matter how imperfect, careless or even sinful, who would not become a saint, and a big one. But you certainly never will until you learn to turn every action into a prayer and shake off the old tempter who strangles your efforts to pray.

on Thoughts for June 1 from Fr Willie Doyle.

Father Willie please intercede for me to the Eternal Physician for help in a private struggle.
Again, like a good spiritual director, Father Doyle tells us to take our spiritual life seriously, namely, our prayer life. Father doesn’t direct us to be gloomy and stern about it, but to apply ourselves for our eternity depends on it. Pray with our minds and hearts, works of mercy and other kindness, with genuine charity, forgiveness, with the intention of wanting to forgive as Jesus forgave, and still forgives. Not basing our behavior on feelings, but on knowing what is right, decent, Christ-like.
Father Doyle, thank you for your common sense and Christian advice. Please let us be serious about our spiritual life, our prayers life with gentleness and kindliness.
