If only one could grasp this fact: every tiny thing (aspiration, self-denial etc) makes us holier than we were. Just think of the thousands of tiny things done each day for God, all is done for Him, every one of them has added to our merit, making us more pleasing in His sight, and each moment holier.

What a consolation to know that God doesn’t always expect us to do great things, but that even the apparent insignificant things we do are welcomed and loved by God. We need only do what we can to give Him glory, to show charity to our neighbor and so to grow in Christ-likeness, that is grow in holiness. No show, no special attention, just humbly being the person He wants us to be. Father Doyle, please assist us in our hope to be genuine and humble servants.
