I do not receive any money for ads on this site, and I do not have any control over the ads that appear here – it is all arranged by the site hosts who take the ads and the revenue. In fact, I generally am unaware of the ads as I am normally logged in as the administrator and hence I do not get to see them.
However I am aware that the number of ads seems to have increased in recent times. From some feedback received I have also learned that some of the ads are becoming objectionable. Someone has told me that an ad for Planned Parenthood has appeared on the site, and it seems that New Age style ads for “angel readings” have begun to appear.
All of this is unacceptable to me and is against the spirit of this site.
The only way I can stop this is to pay the site hosts to block ads. Effectively I have to replace the revenue that the ads currently generate for the site hosts. I intend to do this in the coming days, and hopefully we will be finished with obtrusive and offensive ads once and for all.
I understand your motivation for this, but is this going to cost you an awful lot of money?
Yhese sites must rake in an inordinate amount from these ads
It will be great to not see the ads but I hope it doesn’t cost too much!
Hi,
The site and the insight into Fr Willie Doyle is amazing.
Frankly I do not even notice the adverts.
BUT , if you do decide to pay the site hosts, would make sense to make us contribute.
My story:
My family on both sides were involved in the Rising, War of Independence and some in the Civil war.
Living in the UK during the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s was not nice being Irish ( no comments are necessary save for, we were two notches below dogs and one below blacks) and both of never waged war) !
We ( my family) out of respect for 1916 and especially the atrocities in the north would never wear poppies , yet of course we sympathised with the victims of the slaughter especially the 1914-18 World War.
I would place money in the collection boxes but never a poppy, UNTIL one St Patricks Day Mass , father Alex of St Patricks Soho spoke warmly and historically of Father Willie.
The books and your wonderful web site has allowed me to understand and know more of the huge sacrifice of the Irish during that war.
I’ve worn a poppy ever since, not ever forgetting especially my Grandfather but always remembering the victims of that terrible slaughter and others since.
Your wonderful memories and writings of Father Willie, capture both the madness of war, but also that there is humanity and of course courage and that even within battle there is God.
Thank-you
God Bless
Terry
